"It's time to carpe the diem"
Just one of the many lines that had me laughing out loud... however there were so many gems for parents and adults that I eventually had to work on not laughing out loud so that I didn't have my 4-year-old twins, Jack and Ella, constantly asking, "why you laugh?"
This movie is top to bottom an absolute slam dunk, and warranted a first for Jack. He uttered these words as we left the theatre "can we watch this on DVD?"
From the opening credits to closing, this movie was an absolute delight for every single person in the theatre. I will give you fair warning, it is not actually cloudy with a chance of MEATBALLS until towards the end. It was cloudy with a chance of hamburgers (or as we say, "hamburgurgers"), then eggs, bacon and toast, then a myriad of other edible items, and finally meatballs. Flint Lockwood is an absolutely delightful character, an inspiration to every person in the audience, young and grown, to be yourself, stick with your passion, and keep on believing in yourself. And that is only brought even more to life when he finds a true friend in Sam Sparks, a budding weather girl who truly connects with him in her own beliefs and passions.
Now I warn you, there is so very little about this movie that resembles the book, but it brings a new generation of kids to love a story that I grew up with in a way that they can connect. At first this was disappointing, but within 15 seconds into the movie my preconceived notion of the book went out the window and the new Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was born.
With every animated movie, I spend a majority of it figuring who the voices are. I almost giggled when I realized Mr. T is the police officer! And I was utterly surprised at the credits to find out the father was James Caan.
Everything about this movie delighted me and the twins. Everything. And that includes Steve the monkey.
